As I’m sure you all know, green veg is very important in one’s diet. Whether it’s music to your ears or not, there are many reasons why. Broccoli in particular is one of the best, here’s why:
One portion of broccoli contains the RDA of vitamin C. Vitamin C is an effective antihistamine for easing the discomfort of the common cold.
One portion of broccoli provides the immune system with beta-carotene which also acts to strengthen immune defence actions.
Broccoli contains a high amount of potassium, which helps maintain a healthy nervous system and optimal brain function, as well as promoting regular muscle growth.
Along with a high amount of potassium, Broccoli also contains magnesium and calcium that help regulate blood pressure.
Broccoli contains high levels of calcium and vitamin K, both of which are important for bone health and prevention of osteoporosis.
Broccoli is helpful in repairing skin damage because it contains glucoraphanin which helps the skin to detoxify and repair itself.
Broccoli helps reduce the risk of gastric cancer because it contains glucoraphanin, which with the body processes into the anti-cancer compound sulforaphane. This compound gets rid of the body H. pylori, which is a bacterium which increases the risk of gastric cancer.
Broccoli is high in fibre, which helps with digestion, prevents constipation, maintains low blood sugar, and curbs overeating. A portion of broccoli has as much protein as a portion of rice with half the calories!
The B6 and folate in broccoli can also reduce the risk of atherosclerosis, heart attack, and stroke.
Finally, broccoli helps with vision too as it’s a good source of vitamin A that is needed to form retinal, the light-absorbing molecule that is essential for both low-light and color vision.
So it’s not just carrots which help you see in the dark !! : )
Too many reasons here to make sure you involve broccoli in your diet, daily if possible! It takes 10 minutes to cook, so a quick and easy way to stay healthy while added to your intake of protein and carbs.
Never underestimate the power of these little green afro headed aliens!
