Water is an extremely important part of one’s diet as I’m sure know.
But many people don’t know the true benefits of water, especially within fitness and bodybuilding. So lets start with the basics. Water makes up around 72 percent of the human body – weirdly enough that same percentage of water makes up the earth itself.
What we are going to focus on is the huge benefits water has in terms of training and health. Many people don’t drink enough water which is not surprising, most replace water with food…. confusing. Yeah, well you heard that right – replace water with food!
Let me explain. The majority of times, people think they are actually hungry, when in fact, they mistake thirst for hunger. They then wonder why they still hungry, after eating a huge meal!
This wouldn’t be ideal if you were dieting, but this problem is real and it occurs a lot. Hence why people that diet, may not be getting the results they crave.
If you can’t control your hunger, I would recommend to drink water about 30mins before eating. This will prevent your mind mistaking thirst for hunger and as a positive – help with your digestion. Now that we’ve got that covered that I wanted to make clear, lets move onto water and training now.
A lot of people are in this mind set of drinking water while training, which in plain and simple terms makes no sense what so ever! Here is why….It takes 30 – 40 minutes for our bodies to be heated. So, drinking water while training makes simply no sense, unless you’re clearing a dry throat. It would be more beneficial, if you consume water about 30-40 minutes before hitting the gym. You keep yourself hydrated and provide minerals that are lost during training. The transportation of nutrients is very important for your training and diet – lack of water will hinder progress. Of course, water doesn’t transport nutrients by itself, but if you look at it in a different way, such as blood flow, this is were it’s benefits truly show!
As we all know, the better blood flow – the better transportation of nutrients to muscles being worked. Simply put – water thins out your blood, making it easier to flow, which leads to better nutrient transportation. So if you train, you should be consuming a lot of water throughout the day.
I beg you, avoid consuming caffeine stimulants. This stuff will increase your cortisol levels and dehydrate you. You would have to drink 4 glasses of water to 1 stimulant, to replenish yourself from dehydration.
One more tip – avoid, where possible, drinking water from plastic bottles. This is highly eastrogenic because of the plastic toxins. It also depends on how long the water has been in the bottle. If you just refilling it, it won’t have any effect, but the longer it is stored in plastic bottles, the more toxified it becomes!
Now we have covered all that, all I can say is – continue to read into the benefits of water – you may well be suprised on how much it can help with your goals & aspirations!
Until next time
