Within this article we are going to cover all the benefits of three macronutrients that are usually a second though in a bodybuilding diet – carbohydrates, fat and fiber.
When it comes to bodybuilding carbohydrates are always a second thought after protein, which is a slight shame, because they do have a great placing in the bodybuilding lifestyle. And as much as I have pleaded to avoid them in previous articles, even simple carbohydrates have huge benefits. But let’s take this one from the top.
There are two types of carbohydrates – complex and simple.
Complex carbohydrates – This form of carbohydrates should be included in each of your meal plans as you won’t be spiking it enough to piss off your insulin. Insulin is a wishy washy hormone and it can work for you or against you. Manipulating it the right way is key! As I mentioned in my article, insulin is an anabolic hormone.
Simple carbohydrates – Now there is only one place for these, you should only ever use simple carbohydrates immediately after training. Why? To start with it will spike your insulin hugely thus the insulin will transport all the growth hormone being produced, taking it to the muscles. Your simple carbohydrates should come from a natural (fruit) source or an even more advance way of spiking your insulin – using concentrated juice!
Fiber plays a huge role in building muscle believe it or not. But at the same time it is highly neglected by many bodybuilders. Our muscle size is not only down to our genetics but it’s also down to the strength of our immunity. The stronger your immunity is – the larger the muscles will grow. So in other words, the strength of your immunity dictates if you will reach your full potential. Fiber plays a huge role in the strength of our immunity and it can almost be considered the most important macronutrient in a bodybuilders diet. So if you are disowning fiber, you’re simply holding yourself back from your true potential. You should have fiber in every meal you consume! It should come from the likes of leafy greens/ spinach leaves.
Healthy fats are the most avoided macronutrient by most people. Reason being, because stupid company’s and the GDA guidelines enforce the thought onto people that fat makes you fat. It is a great selling point as well. If you haven’t noticed on every food advert, they include that they only have so much fat percentage in their food. Well here is the breaking news – I have said it before, fat does not and never will make you fat. Only sugar can make you fat. Don’t believe me? Well, carry on eating sugar and avoiding fat and see how far you get! I can almost guarantee, you will turn out a type 1 diabetic and add on additional body fat!
Now we covered that, what about the fat benefits. Well to begin with, healthy fats have a huge role in a male’s testosterone production. Yes you heard right. And even consider this – low testosterone can lead to heart attack. A true fact – heart attacks are increasing as the United Kingdom become healthier – by avoiding fat in their diet. France has the lowest amount of heart attacks in Europe and they eat more healthy fats than any other country. The proof is in the pudding!
So stop following everyone else and think for yourself. It might just save you from serious health problems.
