So I competed in the Bikini Short Class at the UKBFF South Coast Championships in Portsmouth last Sunday. On the day of the show I was up at 5am & sooooo excited while putting on my tan and doing my hair…..my Mum drove down with me and supported me all day….she was amazing. After my registration with the other athletes I disappeared into a quiet area to gather my thoughts…I then just went into my own little world thinking of what I was going to do and how I was going to perform.
My prep for the show was alot of carbs haha!! No seriously it had to be a delicate balance with carbs and good fats in my diet – essentially a building diet but with the help of a great friend I knew the direction I needed to go In.
I did a lot of practicing on my posing routine – in fact over and over and over to feel more confident. Each evening I’d be at home, reflecting on the days hardwork and psyching myself up to believe in myself that I could go on stage and be competitive.
People ask me how I manage to train, especially as I am a single mum with 2 boys. Because my hands are full with them both (and I would not want it any other way), I do a lot of training at home. My favourite bodyparts to train is back and legs – lI just love the burn!!
So after my first show, what did I gain and what did I learn? Well I didn’t place but I believe that any knockbacks will make me much stronger and more determined to succeed. I’m already planning on where to improve for my next show with both my training and dieting.
What I did realise is on the day of any show, you need to relax and simply enjoy the experience….it’s something that no one can take from you….only you will know how great it feels. All the girls I competed with are so lovely and compliments are never scarce back stage. I will need to work on my poses, to keep them for longer when on stage and I’d also better make sure I know which way to go on stage ha ha (beginners mistake lol).
In regards to future competitions, I’ll be at BodyPower 2013 on 18th May at the USN Classic and the Physique of the Week. After that, I’m maybe looking at the the MuscleTalk Championships in July and the Kent Classic in August.
I’ll be updating my progress on my page each week with photos and videos – do keep checking.
Remember, it’s not just about how good you are….it’s about how bad you want it….and it’s this belief that continues to motivate me to become the success I know I can be….the same principles should apply to you as well 🙂
